Dentures
Dentures are natural-looking replacement teeth that are removable.
For patients who are missing several or all of their upper or lower teeth, complete dentures and partial dentures offer a great, long term solution.
Losing your teeth has serious emotional effects. Dentures can restore your smile and restore your confidence and quality of life.
Complete dentures are used when all the teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF DENTURES :
- Traditional / conventional dentures :
Complete dentures can be either “conventional” or “immediate.” These are made after the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has begun to heal, a conventional denture is ready for placement in the about 8 to 12 weeks after the teeth have been removed.
- Implant supported dentures :
When possible, we at Doshi dental care prefer to use implant supported dentures for patients with multiple missing teeth. While implant-supported dentures require a significant investment initially, the long term benefits help offset financial concerns.
Benefits of Implant-secured Dentures:
Better fitting and retention.
No risk of slippage.
Helps to maintain bone structure.
Many existing dentures can be converted into an implant-supported denture.
Once a patient has lost a tooth, the bone structure begins to deteriorate. Dental implants help to retain bone structure and avoid unwanted problems in the future.
This type of denture technically isn’t a denture at all, it’s more like a fixed bridge. Typically 4 or 6 dental implants are placed on the upper and lower arch. The denture hybrid (implant denture) is fixed onto the implants in the mouth.
They are the most stable and aesthetic option as compared to conventional dentures.
- Overdentures
Lower conventional dentures are generally ill – fitting due to the constant movement of the tongue and the lips .We firmly believe that almost all lower dentures should be an overdenture, because otherwise the denture will flop around, making it difficult to speak, eat, and talk.
Overdenture is essentially attached to either two dental implants or two mini-implants.
The denture will actually “click” into the two positions.
This is the second best option after implant supported hybrid denture.
Just like natural teeth, dentures need to be properly cared for. Use a gentle cleanser to brush your dentures, always keep them moist when they’re not in use, and be sure to keep your tongue and gums clean as well.
